- This project has been about love - love not meeting the idea of the ?perfect? love, the romantic love, the love between a man and a woman, the equal love without sacrificing/becoming sacrificed, the (unwanted) love finally fading away. The theme, one of the most popular subjects ever expressed through various forms of art, has been conveyed here through my personal experiences.
This project has taken its place between Jewellery Art and Performance Art not bearing their ?traditional? characteristics. The beauty doesn?t lay here on the preciousness/complexity of the materials or on the demanding techniques: Performance Art has been considered here as the method of investing preciousness (time and love) into the objects ? rather than an event for public. The objects have strong connections to body used as a frame/source or/and as a (human)tool. More important than the definitions for Jewellery Art or Performance Art have been their roles as the anchoring points for a way of making taking its place in an unknown location in between.
Approaching my limits has characterized my work: While the physical limits have been approached through e.g. the continuous/repetitive work, have the psychological limits been encountered by breaking the boundaries of what is too private to be shown, told.
What has been regarded here as the piece is often not the object, but that combined with images/film from the process ? something that is often more important than the actual object often not even present. Emphasizing both the making and the outcome has been seen here as the bridge between the immaterial and the material worlds ? the tool of transformation.
There has been not only confusion between different disciplines but also balancing on the often vague boundary between art and design ? the shapes and structures emerged are intriguing as themselves, independent from the ?heavy? process/theme behind. But on the other hand who could deny the significance of the personal contents in any creative process? These objects from a personal journey have among them pieces that could be worn as well as lifted on a podium - the starting point doesn?t necessarily determine the results.
Despite my highly personal starting point I trust that I am not, as human being, capable in creating something that would entirely exclude the audience - other human beings - from understanding my work.
