An interesting paper with insightful commentry. However, there are a few issues which need addressing, namely:

? the abstract and paper are not aligned. I would suggest re-writing the abstract to reflect the contents of the paper, and the argument presented
? The aims and objectives of the paper are not clear. It would be helpful if the author insert an introduction to the paper, clearly stating the intentions and structure.
? There appears to be 3 main sections to the paper, all interesting but at the moment there are no clear connections. It is necessary that the relation between these is made transparent and the relation to the main argument articulated.
? Footnote reference 8 is inserted using an irregular font, requires amendment.
? Consistency of approach to graphic presentation of information in the bibliography is required, last entry is out of ?sync?.

This is clearly written, uses sources well and precisely and builds an argument in a well-organised way, it also uses evocative language in a persuasive and appropriate way, given the nature of the material. The author/s should be asked to do a careful proofreading as there are some minor spelling and grammar errors which need correcting.

My only reservation is that the author/s make a number of assertions in the abstract about ?the positivist agenda and its accompanying science based technical, analytical rationality?. This kind of language is frequently used, especially by artists suffering from unreasonable ?science fright? and, to take it seriously, I feel that it should be backed up by some evidence, for example by describing practices or sources that ilustrate the problem.
